SMS Nurture Care is an initiative by SMS School aimed at supporting 11-16 year olds, of both genders, who have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) where Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) is a primary or secondary need. The scheme is closely connected to SMS Changing Lives School, which already provides independent special-school education and was rated “good” by Ofsted in 2021. The goal is to offer stable, therapeutic residential placements so young people don’t repeatedly move placements, avoid having to leave their area, and thus reduce both disruption to their learning and emotional distress. Impact assessments are carried out case by case to ensure compatibility of residents.
